Itinerary

Day 1: Donau Auen National Park (Austria)

Our team will pick you up in Vienna around 8am. We’ll start the trip with a guided visit of the National Park exhibition center. You’ll get a good understanding of the history of the Danube and the challenges associated with the construction of the dam.

After a traditional lunch, we’ll go on a casual walk around the native forests with our biologist. Enjoy a cold swim or beach time in front of the Devín castle.

Day 2: Flooded Forests (Slovakia)

Spend the day with Siggi, BROZ project manager, exploring the flooded forests in the Danube side arms! We’ll stop at multiple project sites. You might see frogs, tadpoles; and many traces of otters and beavers…

You’ll be suited up in waders to get the full experience!

Day 3: Birdwatching & Kayaking (Slovakia & Hungary)

Enjoy a birdwatching tour at sunrise on a magical wetland with Kristian, a local ornithologist. The wetland was re-flooded 2 years ago by BROZ and is already buzzing with wildlife: you might see frogs, nutrias, fireflies, deers, wild bores, and many birds…

After a quick nap, we’ll discover the Hungarian side of the river on a kayak tour, getting another perspective on the Danube.

Day 4: Eco farm & Beaver watching (Slovakia)

In the morning, we’ll make our way to the eco farm. Enjoy a boat tour around the island with your guides.

During the afternoon, you may go on a walk through the meadows; do some volunteering on the island; or enjoy some free time to explore the island on your own.

In the evening, we’ll go beaver watching on the waterfront.
