This is a unique opportunity for certified divers to go beyond tourism and become active stewards of the ocean. Join our marine biologists in the stunning waters of Nusa Penida, Indonesia, to create a resilient, thriving underwater ecosystem for manta rays, sea turtles, and countless reef species.


Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Welcome

Our team will greet you upon arrival in Bali, Indonesia, and help you get to beautiful Nusa Lembongan.

Gather for a welcome meeting and dinner to introduce the week.

Day 2: Coral Restoration Introduction

Join our marine biologists for an introduction to our coral reef restoration project. Learn the techniques and science behind their work.

Jump into the clear waters for your first 2 dives of the trip, discovering our underwater project sites.

Day 3: Get Into Action

Join a morning meeting with our biologists to learn about marine ecology and coral reefs.

Enjoy 2 dives around our site with optional hands-on work (e.g. deploy new reef structures, plant coral).

Free afternoon to relax or explore the island. Suggested: local tour of the mangrove forest.

Day 4: Explore Lembongan’s Beauty

Enjoy a full day of diving at the most beautiful spots around the island - Crystal Bay and Manta Point.

Our team will take you on a boat trip and show you the vibrant life underwater. You may spot manta rays, turtles, and countless other species.

Day 5: Coral Reef Restoration

Our marine biologists will take you on 2 dives to continue progress on the reef structures you’ve set up. Optional hands-on work (e.g. monitoring, removing invasives).

Free afternoon to relax and explore the island. Suggested: surfing classes!

Day 6: Coral Reef Restoration

Final 2 dives around the project sites. Our team will take you to various spots so you can see the full evolution from degraded areas to older project sites where we’ve already seen amazing coral growth.

Free afternoon to relax and celebrate the week’s achievements.

Day 7: Relax & Depart

Final morning on the island at your own pace. Enjoy the gorgeous swimming pool, the beach, the local shops and restaurants.

What’s included

We’ve put together a trip package so you don’t have to worry about anything once you’re in Indonesia. The only thing you have to do is get there!

    • 6 nights in a 3-star hotel right on the beach

    • Shared twin room. Solo travellers will share a room with someone else (same gender)

    • If you’re travelling with someone, you can be placed in the same room

    • Daily housekeeping

    • Breakfast every morning at the hotel

    • Lunch and dinner is not included. The hotel has a restaurant and there are tons of delicious spots on the beach

    • Daily workshops with conservation biologists, so you leave with a heap of knowledge on rewilding science and techniques, and a full understand of how corals work

    • We also believe you will learn a ton by spending the week with biologists and project managers, who will take the time to share their stories and experience, and answer any questions you may have about nature restoration

    • Opportunity to take part in rewilding interventions (e.g. installing structures, collecting coral fragments, attaching coral fragments, removing invasives, monitoring coral planting areas…)

    • Pick up from Bali Denpasar airport to Sanur boat harbour

    • Boat ride from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan and back at the end of the week

    • Our team will pick you up every day at the beach in front of the hotel and take you on a boat to our diving location

    • Transport on the island during the week is not included. We suggest you hire taxis or scooters if you want to explore the island

  • We will provide you with scuba diving equipment, so you don’t have to bring yours:

Where you’ll stay

You will stay at a gorgeous hotel with a private beach, swimming pool and stunning views. The hotel includes a restaurant serving Asian and American cuisines and is a 3-min walk away from the main street.

Getting there

Organising your trip doesn’t have to be daunting. If you have any further queries, please get in touch!

  • We can meet at the hotel directly for our welcome meeting and dinner. We will communicate the place and time closer to the trip date.

  • You can either:

    • Meet us at Bali airport in Denpasar, where we will pick you up and drive you to the boat harbour

    • Or meet us directly at the boat harbour in Sanur, where we will take the boat to Lembongan together

  • You will need to land at Denpasar airport in Bali before 2pm.

    Our team will pick you up at the airport and drive you to the boat harbour, where we will take a boat to Lembongan island altogether.

 

Your trip funds rewilding projects

10% of the trip revenue goes back directly to Mossy Earth’s projects on the ground. As we hire local guides, you help us show nature conservation can contribute to the local economy.

You’ve got questions,
we’ve got answers

  • This trip is certified divers only. You need to have at least an Open Water certificate, to make sure you are comfortable moving underwater. We also ask that you have done at least 1 dive in the last 12 months before the trip. Divers should be respectful of the delicate ecosystem, not harming the corals, fishes or other underwater creatures.

    Our trips are made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2, with most in their 30s - 50s. Everyone is very friendly and passionate about nature. People often join our trips to meet other, like-minded people.

  • Of course! Many people join as solo travellers and make friends along the way.

  • Citizens of certain Asian countries can enter Indonesia without a visa for up to 30 days.

    Citizens of around 90 countries (including the UK, US, EU countries, Australia, etc…) can obtain a Visa On Arrival (VOA) valid for 30 days, which can be extended for another 30 days. The visa can be obtained at the airport upon arrival or online, before travelling.

    Your passport must be valid for 6 months after your date of entry into Indonesia.

  • Yes. We require all guests on our trips to book their own travel insurance.

    Your travel insurance must provide protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation or repatriation, your personal items, and scuba diving.

    To get travel insurance, you can first check if your credit card company offers anything. Otherwise, you can check online for travel insurers.

  • According to the CDC, all international travelers should be fully vaccinated against measles with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. You can check the full recommendations here: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/indonesia

  • If you would like to cancel your trip, please notify us by email.

    You may be entitled to a refund, as set out below:

    • Under UK law, if you purchase goods or services from us online, you have the right to cancel your order within 14 days without providing a reason. In this case, we will issue a full refund

    • If you cancel more than 24 weeks before the scheduled start date for the trip, we will refund you 75% of the Trip Price you have paid us;

    • If you cancel less than 24 weeks before the Trip Date, but more than 12 weeks before the Trip Date, we will refund you 50% of the Trip Price you have paid us;

    • If you cancel less than 12 weeks before the Trip Date, we will not provide you a refund.

    We may issue a voucher or refund if we can find someone else to take your spot, in which case we will charge you a £50 administrative fee.

    Note that if your cancellation is within the terms of your travel insurance policy, you may be able to make a claim.

  • Our staff is certified in first aid, divemaster and open water instructor, and we maintain a small number of guests per trip for close supervision.

    Every day, our team runs through risk assessment checklists to ensure we have all the equipment needed and are ready in case of any emergency. We will also ask you to tell us about any allergies and medical needs so that we can ensure your safety.

  • During dives to our project sites, we will not go further than 12 meters deep. On other diving sites, we will go up to 18-30 meters deep.

    You will be able to see different stages of coral health, as we show you around untouched coral reef sites, sites where we’ve been growing coral for a year, and sites where we’ve just started. To see more, you can watch our Field Notes YouTube videos.

  • We will aim to do roughly 10 dives in total (2 dives x 5 days). Note this is an indication and we may do more or less depending on the group and the weather conditions.

    Each dive will be maximum 60 min long.

  • Here is a list of species you may be able to spot during our dives:

    • Scissortail Sergeant (Abudefduf sexfasciatus)

    • Five-Banded Sergeant Major (Abudefduf vaigiensis)

    • Powderblue Surgeonfish (Acanthurus leucosternon)

    • Parrotfish (Scaridae family)

    • Wrasses (Labridae family)

    • Groupers (Serranidae family)

    • Mackerel (Scombridae family)

    • Turtles

    • Nudibranchs

    • Trevallies

    • Mola Mola (when in season)

    • Manta rays

  • Indonesia has a very mild weather throughout the year. It may rain, but that should not stop us from diving.

    Our team will review the tides a few days before the trip and adjust the itinerary accordingly.

  • We recommend you pack:

    • Snorkelling masks and tubas if you want to do some on the beach
